Shortly after graduating high school, 18-year-old Mackey follows in the footsteps of his father and his father before him and joins the United States Marine Corps. Unbeknownst to his family, teammates and especially the Corps, Mackey and his fellow Marine eloped in Las Vegas prior to reporting for duty. Soon after arriving to the battlefield, Mackey’s unit fell prey to an improvised explosive device. Mackey awoke at a military hospital in Germany to discover he had lost the love of his life. Mackey was discharged from active duty because of losing a limb, he was forced to return to his hometown in Montana. Plagued by depression, remorse and guilt, Mackey’s road to recovery slowly became increasingly difficult due to a series of unfortunate events. To find what he lost, the young man embarked on a solo quest in the rugged territory of Alaska.
